In this day and age, there are several ways to make money online. Here are some of the most widely known (not in any specific order):
1. Becoming a merchant. You can become an internet merchant by starting your own web site and selling products online. Your own financial investments are needed. Fun-factor is not very high.
2. Becoming a blogger. You can create a blog, attract a large following, and collect money from advertising. No financial investments needed. Fun-factor is up to you, but lots of work is needed.
3. Creating a site with very special content. You can create your own site with an innovative new concept, like the 21-year-old American student Alex Tew with his Million dollar homepage. Investments are up to you and range from minimal to anything you want. Fun-factor is up to you, but lots of work is needed.
4. Becoming an affiliate. You can make money by referring internet sites to other people. No investments are needed. Fun-factor is not very high.
5. Selling your stuff at Amazon or eBay. You can make money by selling your own stuff. No real investments are needed, but you naturally need to have the stuff to sell. Fun-factor is not very high.
All of the above are real and well proven means of making money online. Regardless of my personal fun-factor definitions, one way might be the best for someone, while another might be even better for someone else. However, there are even more interesting ways to make money online:
6. Gambling and betting. You can play poker or casino games, or bet on different subjects and hope to win. Investments are usually needed, but you can also make money by only playing poker freerolls. Fun-factor can be high.
7. Playing skill games. You can compete against others for money. Investments are usually needed, but you can also make money by playing freerolls. High fun-factor.
I don't think that anyone will disagree that these last two on the list are the most fun ways to make money on the internet.
If you decide to gamble or do some serious betting, you need to remember that luck will always be an important element, both in good and bad. There are definitely big wins, but there are just as definitely big losses. Skill games, on the other hand, are more up to you and your own skills. Personally, I prefer skill games over gambling, even though the pots are usually smaller. It may take longer to make the same kind of money in skill games as compared to gambling, but the process is more rewarding mentally and less risky financially, that is, if you have the skills to win. Poker and betting also require skills, especially in the long run, but there are still elements of luck in both games, luck that can rocket you from rags to riches in a few minutes, and vice versa.
Skill games market is growing rapidly on the internet. There are already thousands of different games on hundreds of sites, many of which can be categorized in the casual gaming genre, and the games are usually played one-on-one. Console games can also be played against other players for money, but they usually suffer from problems in the players' internet connections. Console online gaming for money will probably pick up only after broadband connections become much more stable.
In skill games, the biggest pots can be found in multiplayer games, but they are not very well known to the big masses yet. Hopefully this will change soon, because personally I prefer them over all the other money games on the market. My own favorite is Texas" target="_blank">www.texasquizem.com/">Texas Quiz'em, a trivia game that is played like Texas Hold'em poker. I recommend it to anyone who wants to have as much fun as possible while earning money.
My first online multiplayer experiences were with Quake and Doom in 1996, but the real awakening came with Socom. I was enchanted for a couple of years, until the game's later versions were not as good as the first two, and my interest in Socom twindled. That's when I discovered that I could earn money by playing Texas Hold'em online. Most recently I have started to play Texas Quiz'em, an online quiz that is played like poker.
